Shannon
Simpson

Coach

Shannon has trained several martial arts over the years, including Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, and various Filipino martial arts. She is a Katulong Guro (3rd degree black belt) in the Filipino martial art of Kali Sikaran, which has the motto “Self-defence with confidence”. This has taken her to train in countries such as Sweden, Finland, Greece, USA, Thailand, South Africa and of course, The Philippines. Shannon really enjoys the variety of skills that can be gained from Kali Sikaran including panatukan and Sikaran (kick-boxing), close quarter empty hand application (kadaena de mano), and weapons training (stick, knife, sword, improvised weapons). It’s like training 8 martial arts in one!

Shannon has a special interest in self-defence and what it takes to equalize against a bigger, stronger and more able-bodied opponent. This has led to the exploration of Multi-dimensional Warriors (MDW), a South African system whose training methodology provides a framework to effectively navigate the chaos of combat. In her other life, Shannon is an Associate Professor and medical researcher so she enjoys bringing a conceptual learning framework to class that you can keep adding your skills to as they develop.
